Hello, readers!

Yesterday I went for the 3rd time on my current favourite summer activity: going on a horse ride with Cavalos na Areia!

Cavalos na Areia is a company that offers horse rides through the paradisiac beaches of Comporta, which is less than a 2 hour drive from Lisbon - and the best part is that it is a suitable activity for anyone, even for those who don’t have any horse riding experience.

On their website, you can consult their prices and how to book your tour. They also offer photo and drone video services for an additional price if you’re planning on taking your memories home with you.

When you arrive at their facilities the first thing you notice is the wide paddock the horses stay at during most times. After handling your booking’s details at the front desk, your group (or private tour) is assigned a guide and you are assigned to a horse - I’ve rode Belmonte, Chanel and Ubi, and all of them are really easy-going!

You ride out of the facilities and start by crossing the super green rice fields that go on for kilometers along Comporta, and it is one of the most beautiful views you have around. You go through the dunes to get to the beach, and your heart will skip a beat when you see the colour of the water - the bluest you can find! Afterwards, you will enjoy a ride along the ocean, and if you feel like it you can even take your horse inside the water and cool off a little bit - this is my favourite part! For those with horse riding experience, you can even gallop a little bit and have some extra fun.

If you have some extra time, your guide might even offer you to go through another part of the sand dunes on your way back, and this is another amazing spot to ride around.

After coming back to the facilities, you can see the horses enjoying their well-deserved rest by rubbing themselves on the dirt, drinking fresh water (their buckets are freshly filled every morning) and having their snack. One thing I love to see is the huge amount of space they have to freely walk around. Also, some of them are a little chubby, so you can see they are being very well treated.

I’ve taken a tour twice with their guide Luís and another tour with their guide Damas, and both of them are very professional and courteous! The owner, José Ribeira, is there everyday checking on their horses - you can clearly see he loves them.

Although I’ve been there a few times in a short amount of time, I cannot wait for my next tour with Cavalos na Areia! It has now become one of my favourite plans!
