Hello, sushi lovers!
We all know that with globalisation, we are able to try almost every thing from every part of the world without even having to leave our houses. Most cuisines are now available in almost every big city, but how do we know which are the best ones to try?
So I decided to share in this post my favorite sushi place in Lisbon (although it might not be the best example of traditional Japanese sushi). Portugal is stuffed with sushi and asian food restaurants, and there are plenty of amazing ones, but my favorite one is by far Arigatô - a fusion sushi house in the center of Lisbon.

We usually go to the one in Campo Pequeno, which is right in the middle of the city, however there’s another one in Parque das Nações. Both of them have great ambiance, and the major difference is just the place. In Parque das Nações, you do pay for the location, but it has the same dinner menu for an additional 4€, which includes the exact same thing.
I’ve never been to Arigatô during lunch time since their all-you-can-eat menu is only at dinner. As far as I’m concerned, their lunch menu is a buffet, which I believe might also be very nice.
So, starting with the space: the Campo Pequeno restaurant is located in the actual bullring - the building dates back to the late 1800’s and it has a very particular Arabian arquitecture, it really stands out from everything else around it in the city.

The restaurant is inside one of its major towers. Once you get in, you walk into a room where I believe they host their group dinners, usually they will direct you to the upper level. Here you will find three different sections where you can be seated.

The dinner menu is 20.50€ (drinks not included), and you will be able to choose from different starters (you can even request all of them) and choose a main plate combination (you can request with a different variety of fish or just salmon pieces). You can check their online menu here.

After the starters, they will bring a main plate with all the basic pieces like makis, nigiris, sashimi and so on - not only the plating is amazing, but the pieces will keep you wishing for more! They usually bring this main plate with a cup of nitrogen that creates a fog around the sushi pieces, which is super cool - this is the moment for you to prepare your camera for a picture!

Afterwards, their staff will come occasionally with different and innovative sushi pieces for you to try, and you are able to request as many as you want, including the ones you were already served in the main dish.

Arigatô is my favorite sushi place in Lisbon because their fish is always fresh (we always make sure not to go on Sundays and Mondays because in Portugal these days are not the best ones to eat fish since it’s not the freshest) and they have the perfect mix of basic pieces and pieces you would never dream of. My personal favorites, besides the basic ones, are the ones they call Black Makis (regular salmon makis with a bit of cream cheese and cuttlefish ink rice) and one that I consider very Portuguese which is a salmon hot roll topped with fried kale - I know this sounds strange but it’s delicious!

To go along with my dinner, I usually request their homemade lemonade, although I’ve also taken some sips of their homemade ice teas and they are also amazing.

Something I really want to highlight in this restaurant is the fact that their staff is the best! I’ve been to Arigatô countless times and never had a bad experience: you don’t have to wait a lot for your food and their employees are super friendly and engaging.
From all the sushi places I’ve been to, I would definitely recommend this one if you’re in the mood for an amazing sushi in Lisbon!
